What does a success story mean to you? At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County we believe a success story is when life changing work takes place and gives Martin County youth the hope and opportunity to grow. We'd like to share some of these success stories with you so you can see the influence that your support has on our local community.
Member Name: Kyrell
Club: Hobe Sound
Age Group: Cadets (ages 6-9)
Kyrell started off as a nearly silent child in the one-on-one and group mentoring sessions he attended at Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County in Hobe Sound. He’d sometimes offer one-word answers to questions, but he was more likely to shrug his shoulders, look down and say nothing.
When the rest of the group was learning to recite motivational quotes by heart, Kyrell lagged behind. The young boy in the Cadets age group (6-9) was fighting low self-esteem and no self-confidence. But he didn’t give up.
Today, Kyrell recites motivational quotes, gives positive feedback to others during group meetings and even raises his hand to go first when it’s time for individual speeches. He’s also asked to be a peer mentor to the next new member of the group.
Kyrell earned the Most Improved award this spring. He says Boys & Girls Clubs is helping him “do better in life.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Martin County is celebrating its 26th year of “building great futures” in Martin County, enabling youth and teens to reach their full potential by staying on track to graduate, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and practicing healthy lifestyles. All donations are vital investments in the lives and the futures of our children.
