The 2012 School Supply Drive for Martin County’s children and teens, coordinated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County, is now underway.
The drive runs from July 5 through August 3, 2012, and school supplies must be new. Requested supplies include: pens, pencils, pencil boxes, glue sticks, markers, scissors, erasers, crayons, two-pocket folders, notebook paper, colored pencils, binders, subject notebooks, rulers and composition notebooks.
Students eligible for the free and reduced-lunch program at their schools will be the recipients of the donated school supplies. They do not have to be Club Members to receive school supplies.
Collection sites include all Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County locations, Martin Downs Sports Resort, The Children’s Museum, Lively Orthodontics, Realtor Association of Martin County, Treasure Coast Wellness Center, Martin County Administrator’s Office, Forest Hills Stuart and Palm City locations, all Martin County locations for Bank Atlantic, Florida Community Bank, and Seacoast National.
Other local businesses and organizations are encouraged to become public collection sites. Organizers will make all the arrangements to pick up donated school supplies from each collection site.
The month-long school supply will also include a "Stuff the Bus” event on July 28 from 10 am to 3 pm at Kohl’s (2751 NW Mall Circle in Jensen Beach) where the public can bring new school supplies and help the Clubs fill a yellow school bus with school supplies.
In 2011, the School Supply Drive benefitted more than 8,300 youth in Kindergarten through 12th grade, which is roughly 1/3 of all students in Martin County.
